2e2 welcomes its latest executive board members – two students from Newbury

2e2, a leading provider of mission-critical IT services, has today announced the winners of its 2e2 Newbury Apprentice 2008 – Gemma Phillips, 19 from Peter Simmons College, and Jamie King, 19 from Newbury College

18th July 2008, Newbury, UK – 2e2, a leading provider of mission-critical IT services, has today announced the winners of its 2e2 Newbury Apprentice 2008 – Gemma Phillips, 19 from Peter Simmons College, and Jamie King, 19 from Newbury College. The lucky winners will now embark upon a summer of work experience at 2e2, attending regular board meetings with its top executives, and giving the £256million turnover IT company a different perspective on how we can use technology within the workplace.

The competition was designed so that 2e2 could gain a valuable insight into the workforce of the future and how it operates. This age group, Generation Y*, is the first to grow up using IT and the internet to communicate with its peers and is therefore more experienced in the technologies that are associated with this – including real-time collaboration, social networking, IM, texting. 2e2 wanted to harvest this knowledge, using it to gain an understanding into how businesses can improve their processes and procedures in order to gain a competitive advantage.

“We were originally planning to have just one winner for the competition. However, we were so impressed with the high quality of the entrants we found it difficult to choose just one, hence why both Jamie and Gemma have been appointed. We are really looking forward to hearing their thoughts and opinions on our approach to this kind of technology during our board meetings,” said Nathan Marke, CTO, 2e2. “This is the first time we have had somebody not directly involved with 2e2 present at board meetings, never mind from this age group, but we truly believe that a new way of thinking will help us as we develop these new and cutting-edge business technologies. Watch this space!”

*Generation Y refers to those born between 1989 and 1994.*
