DuPont Teijin Films
DuPont Teijin Films challenges
DuPont Teijin Films is one of the world’s leading suppliers of polyester films. When faced with the end of lease of IT equipment, the timing was in sync with a drive to improve the value of IT, reduce IT maintenance and support costs through upgrading and consolidation and provide a more efficient and powerful platform for future growth.
Solution
- 2e2 put forward a proposal that would enable DuPont Teijin Films to upgrade to the latest equipment and improve value by consolidating two further SAP sub-systems onto the same architecture.
- Throughout the project, it was critical to minimise any disruption to the business – and as DuPont Teijin Films’ manufacturing activities are effectively a 24x7 operation, this presented a number of challenges. 2e2 assisted with the migration of data across from the old system to the new infrastructure and together we achieved a successful migration with minimum impact to the client’s day-to-day business operations.
- The new solution comprises 14 x HP AlphaServer ES47 servers running Tru64 UNIX operating system, with a further 3 UNIX clusters, each comprising 2 servers. Also included is a SAN (Storage Area Network) comprising 2 x HP Continuous Access Enterprise Virtual Array 5000 disk arrays (Continuous Access EVA 5000s), utilising 10Tbs of storage.
- The datacentre is split across two computer room facilities. The servers are configured as two high availability clusters – one in each of the computer rooms in order to eliminate virtually all single points of failure. The SAN is also split between the two rooms, with the data mirrored across both rooms via the Continuous Access EVA 5000s, which enable real-time data replication. Two ESL 9000 tape libraries, one in each room, provide backup protection.
Business Advantage
- The consolidated infrastructure creates a far more powerful system that is easier to manage and more efficient to maintain.
- By installing faster and more powerful equipment, the system performance has been significantly improved enabling faster response to customers’ queries and improved maintenance and support value.
- Consolidating onto fewer servers, with a new lease arrangement over a new timescale, has enabled DuPont Teijin Films to reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO) considerably.
- The project represented one of the largest implementations of ES47s in the UK and is believed to be the UK’s first mixed EVA and Continuous Access installation and the first combined Tru64, EVA and Continuous Access project in the UK.
